[mslee's thoughts] The Legendary Witch Episodes 9 and 10 Review - Soo In's Story
I never thought I will anticipate weekends to come sooner, always. Yes, for this drama, The Legendary Witch, I have become addicted to every episode which is really a surprise for me. Actually, I only started watching weekend dramas that are usually about family because I was curious why many weekend dramas are getting a lot of followers even though they have a lot of episodes. So, I pick this one for a start, and I actually liked it. Then, some more weekend dramas are added in my list, too.
Moon Soo In's story...
Anyway, Han Ji Hye brought me to watch this with her character as Moon Soo In. From previous episodes, I saw her struggles as the unwanted daughter-in-law of the Ma family of Shinhwa group. After being imprisoned for something that was not her fault, she is now a free person and moving forward. But I still see a linger of her naivety which most of the times brings her bad fate. I want to see her a stronger person and use her head wisely. I know she has it in her, just as her father -in-law saw it which somehow scared him.
Together with her two other cell mates, Poong Geum and Mi O, they departed for their own individual destination with a promise to see each other at the end of the month. Soo In has decided to visit her husband's house even if she is not welcome there. The annoying Joo Ran was there and true to her character, she has no good words for her. She only went there to get her things and her husband's picture. She also said her goodbyes to the old madam, her mother-in-law who despite dementia, still remained good to her, even to the point of begging her to take her.
Aeng Ran is another character that has a layered personality. She really seemed nice, particularly to Soo In, despite her ambition and greed as the mistress. I think her concern for Soo In is real because as she had said, she was once like her. Her past is still not revealed so I am looking forward to what circumstances she and the Chairman got together. Well, Soo In left the house and find work. Unfortunately, a man who is also looking for an employee saw her and even if he heard she just got out of prison, he hired her. Well, just looking at him looking at her, I already having goosebumps. I know it will be a disastrous one. he is like a stalker, someone who is obsessed with Soo In, in a subtle way. But then again, she is too trusting. The man has a bakery and she is the only worker in it.
The Chairman heard from Aeng Ran that he should look after Soo In so maybe his conscience surfaced that's why he called for her. She went to the company to see him only to learn that he is giving her money. Maybe he intended it to be as help, as extending his hand towards her, but for Soo In, she declined it. She told him she does not need it she can survive in her own strength. But the old man felt insulted, he attacked her with the way he only knew, to degrade her as not fitting to be a daughter-in-law and that prison is still not enough for the shame she brought to the family. Until the end, the Chairman is ruthless towards her. She talked back about getting her apology from them as they beg in the future in which the old man got angrier.
She left without taking the money. Outside, Woo Seok who was in the car with Joo Hee saw her and get out of the car to run after her. But she did not hear him call her name. She boarded a bus. Woo Seok was left there.
Honestly, this is the very reason why this drama became a favorite each weekend. The glowing chemistry between Soo In and Woo Seok. I think at this time, Woo Seok is the one who noticed her, resulting to thinking of her from time to time. Between the two, it is him who is beginning to care and feel something for her. Soo In is still not aware of any romantic feelings towards him. But she is grateful towards him and of course sorry for the times they met that she acted differently and put him in a bad situation. But I am liking that Woo Seok is giving her his attention while he is uncomfortable with Joo Hee.
Woo Seok is also learning how Soo In did not take money from the Chairman. Thanks to Do Jin who is despite his being a mama's boy, [understandably when his mother is a mistress and the only one who really loves him for real], he is I think a good brother-in-law to Soo In. He feels worried for her. And his worry transfered to Woo Seok when he heard that she has no one to come to.
Soo In went back to the bakery to face her employer who gave her some harsh words, asking where she came from, asking about the man who fetched her and acting like a boyfriend suddenly. The scary part is when he barged at her room suddenly as she was taking off her dress. Soo In felt nervous and uncomfortable that she looked for a place to live. But when she told her employer, he acted as if she had offended him and asked her if she saw her as a molester. That night, he came drunk in her room while she is asleep. He talked to her in his drunken state, telling her of his feelings towards her, making Soo In more cautious, afraid and trying to pacify him. He grabbed her, embraced her as she struggled to get away from him. She run towards the kitchen but he caught her. She had the chance to struck him with a board that made him fell and unconscious. She called emergency. She was arrested when he woke up, accusing her of stealing money. She was taken to the police station. By that time, a call was made to the laundry shop while Woo Seok was closing it. He rushed to the police station to see Soo In being interrogated there.
I think my smile was from ear to ear as I watch the scene with both of them looking at each other. Ah, I felt frustrated that the episode ended at that moment. Seriously, writernim! You know just when to make a viewer want to beg for more. Yes, simple scene, yet the anticipation is already there for next weekend's episodes. I hope that this is going to be the start of more interaction between Woo Seok and Soo In.
-----------------------------
As for other characters like Poong Geum and Mr. Tak, they gave the laughs for every episodes. I look forward to them finally meeting at the dormitory and realizing that both has coned each other into believing otherwise about who they are. Meanwhile, I wonder when will Do Jin be man enough to admit that he can never love anyone else like he did Mi O. The conversation between Aeng Ran and Mi O did not made me mad at the second madam. For all her greed, I do understand her position as a mother to Do Jin but like Mi O has said to her, she was also like her when she got pregnant with Do Jin and the bad treatment she got then, she is worse now towards Mi O.
Maybe Joo Ran is sometimes funny and trying hard to hold on to her husband, but both are very well suited with one another. I like to see her grow up and stop being arrogant and hypocrite as the eldest daughter. For Joo Hee, I only see heartbreak and turning into a vindictive character which I hope not. But then, she will certainly be a scorned woman if Woo Seok confess his feelings for Soo In. She will feel betrayed.
