[mslee's thoughts] Pinocchio Episode 17 Review - It's Never Too Late To Reveal The Truth
This is my first post on this drama although I have followed with eagerness every episode each week the progress of the story. I have always wanted to share some thoughts on the development of the drama but never got to writing it.
Just a short rewind... going to episode 17
This is a story about hiding the truth even to the extent of destroying a family. A dedicated fireman became the scapegoat of the fire that killed his fellow firemen on duty while his body could not be found. The story was sensationalized making Ki Ha Myung and his family bear the brunt of angry people who believed that his father ran away to escape responsibility of the tragic incident. While people were too occupied to put the blame on them, the truth of the story was diverted, the true culprit on the tragedy that happened remain unknown. Except reporter Song Cha Ok who further ignited the people's hatred and Park Ro Sa, a businesswoman who acted as the bridge for the faceless Senator involved.
Now 14 years has passed, the news died down already, only Ha Ki Myung/Dal Po and Choi In Na are fervent enough to find the truth. The consequence of the tragic incident years ago turned Ki Myung's brother Ki Jae Myung into a murderer, killing 3 people who worked then at the warehouse and who knew the truth but decided to keep silent. A crime that he is now paying for.
Although the story has shown that 13 years later, Ha Myung's [Dal Po] father's skeletal remains were found out at the site and concluded that he too died on the spot then, no one cared enough to apologize or give the story so much importance. It just put closure to what happened before. It is painful to find justice too late when the real culprit has yet to be revealed. But then, no secret can be hidden forever.
The new fire incident that happened that claimed lives was reminiscent of what happened 14 years ago. An Chan Soo became the fall guy for the accident. Just like then, Song Cha Ok diverted the true issue of the incident, focusing on Chan Soo's short appearance at the site before the fire happened and blaming him instead that it happened because he did not do his job properly. It's like a de javu' for Dal Po and he would not stand by and see this ting happening again to a friend.
I have yet to like or understand Song Cha Ok for her hypocrisy, arrogance, and shameless acts towards Dal Po and what she did to him and his family. There is no room for forgiveness because she herself has not accepted her wrong doing nor apologize sincerely for her mistakes which turned out now as a conspiracy.
In this recent episode, [17] the story gave a glimpsed of what happened back then. Song Cha Ok was ready to tell the true facts of the story but when she was coerced not to and promised a good future in the company, she chose to be persuaded and bury the truth. Even if In Ha is now holding the evidence that was retrieved from deleted texts messages of her mother's mobile phone containing the conversations with Park So Ra, Song Cha Ok never showed remorse. The annoying and irritating part is that she even persuade In Ha no to pursue with the story for she may be labelled as whistle blower.
I was really anticipating how Dal Po will put Song Cha Ok in her place, and that is to fell flat on her face as she goes down from her mighty position as "credible" news anchor of MSC to a manipulating news anchor but then the twist of the story is a unexpected surprise. Because the truth was a conspiracy that can damage not only the officials of MSC involved, and of course In Ha's future, however YGN's Capt. Hwang Gyo Dong wanted an exclusive news about it, he felt that it should be Dal Po's call to go for it or temporarily shelve it for now. The truth can be revealed in other ways, in thorough investigation that won't make In Ha suffer the consequences.
So the tables are now turned to whoever it was who manipulated and lied about the story in the first place. Dal Po returned the documents to Song Cha Ok's hands. I think the story has come full circle. I understand how the writer wants Song Cha Ok to right what she did wrong. Only she herself can reveal the truth and take responsibility for what she had done on the past. It is high time that she chose to be brave and not be a coward for telling true facts. It's never too late for her to go back to who she was before.
Because this is needed to happen for In Ha and Dal Po to have a happy ending. There is got to be redemption to wrap up the story.
I feel sorry for Seo Bum Jo for keeping silent and returning to his mother's side. I want to understand him that he can not forsake his own mother even if he knew that she did wrong, still I found him weak in this episode. But I think that staying silent will not last for I believe that he will be the reason for his mother, Park So Ra to admit her wrong doings and apologize for them. I think that the fire incident now which happen to be linked on the past will also reveal the truth and somehow Bum Jo will have a part in it.
Choices are there to be made but consequences will follow. Choices made from the past will make who you are now. I like how Choi In Ha is so firm in her choices and not compromise the truth of what she can gain for herself. Her conviction is remarkable not only because she loves Dal Po but her principles are strong and good. As for Dal Po/Ha Myung, the choice is too let go of what could be his revenge towards Song Cha Ok. He has learned a lot from his pains. He can never harm Song Cha Ok without harming In Ha in the process. His solution was brilliant. Letting Song Cha Ok own her mistake by herself.
I want to see an ending that will really satisfy me. After all, this drama has been good in delivering worth while episodes each week so I am really looking forward to a fun and light ending after a heartbreaking confession from Song Cha Ok.
Because the romance is so cute and our OTP needs a wonderful ending.
this is mslee1107 finally able to share some thoughts on Pinocchio.:))
