JTBC "MAIDS" [Servant] Is Notably One Of The Best Saeguk Dramas Currently Airing

File:Maids-p1.jpg

A two day marathon for this wonderfully written saeguk drama has all been worthy as I caught up with the latest episode [10] of MAIDS / Servants.

This is not really in my list of currently airing dramas. I have no intention of watching because my list is full. But the other day, with all these dramas in my laptop, I still found myself having free time to see something and that's when I decided to take a look at MAIDS.

I have read the short synopsis it offered via asianwiki but nothing more. Surprisingly, it did not end in just episode 1 but I craved for more episodes until I finished 5 episodes in a day. Yes, I was compelled by the solid story and how it developed. The progress, the pace are both amazing that it leaves me wanting more.

I also find it interesting how it reminds me of Downtown Abbey where the servants have key roles in the drama. I am satisfied that a K-drama has focused on this kind of scenario, giving it a new flavor. It's not your typical saeguk drama. The characters have their own stories to tell and I think besides the lead characters, the minor ones are also remarkable how they added that extra spice in this riveting drama.

I love Jung Yoo Mi's character as Gook In Yub. She was the epitome of what a noble aghassi is and how her actions could have been looked wrong, but then, how it could be when it is their custom? But the good part of her character is that even if she was facing hardships and became a slave after her father was accused and convicted of treason, still, she retained that classy and sophistication she naturally has, even as a servant. It is what makes her different from her rival Heo Yoon Ok [Lee Shi A]. Yoon Ok and her mother are both the arrogant breed of noble class who look down on people particularly the low class ones and slaves like they are animals and inferior kind.

I won't go into so much detail of the drama because I am not sure if I will do reviews in the coming episodes. But the intrigues and the mysteries of the drama are slowly unfolding and In Yub in her search for the truth is in the middle of it all. Moo Myung [Oh Ji Ho], the servant who lives in the same household where she was brought to serve became someone whom she could depend if she wanted to, advised her to be strong and take revenge after but then realizing that he is one of those who might have betrayed her father leading to his death. The silent Moo Myung has slowly fallen for this noble turned slave ahgassi as days passed. Even betraying his group to the point of rescuing her and hiding her from them.

Kim Eun Gi [Kim Dong Wook] the fiancee turned almost husband by In Yub is another character that gives that mixed vibe for me as a viewer. The marriage with In Yub did not finished because of the sudden barging of the police to get In Yub's father for treason. I say he is somewhat lacking when it comes to conviction because when a choice between making it the hard way, he could not totally go for it. I don't know, although he really loves her and want to elope with her, still something is really holding him back to make him stand on his ground. He married Yoon Ok but also let her know that she won't have his heart.

Yoon Ok is the typical villain in a drama where viewers would probably want to pull her hair and give her a slap across her mocking and arrogant face. Her duplicity is so annoying and irritating. But what I love in this drama is that somehow I can understand where she is coming from. Her jealousy, possessiveness and that ego centric that she has makes her do evil things to In Yub.

The best is yet to come. Now that Moo Myung had already shown that he feels something for In Yub, that he is possibly the King's son and that In Yub is calling him a traitor in front of the King, I am anticipating the coming episodes.

Already halfway but  the story remains good and is getting more intense.

Yes, this is notably one of the best [saeguk] k-drama currently airing.
