[mslee's thoughts] The Three Musketeers Final Episode [12] Season 1 Screen caps Review

Expectedly, the writer and the Pdnim [director] delivered an awesome ending to season 1 of The Three Musketeers. The epilogue is unforseen, though. The scene where the three musketeers and Park Dal Hyang stood on stage facing bandits was a perfect ending, but as the credits rolled up on the screen, the villain Hyang Sun is alive and there she was meeting Ja Jeom. Epic words came form her mouth as she announced to him to make her the King's woman! The twist is going to be daebak for season 2.  And I just can't wait for it.

Well, before I add more thoughts on possible scenarios for next season, I must first share my thoughts on the finale this season.

Not that I am pessimistic on the outcome of the story but because I have no idea where it will go considering the writer is good in bringing surprises each episode. My heart was anxious the whole time the Princess was not shown at the screen after the Prince laid her down for treatment. When he found out who did it, he was mad. He needed to end things with Hyang Sun. Either they both die or one lives.

The confrontation  between Hyang Sun and the Prince was  a combination of all feelings they have for each other. Regret, sadness and anger. Regret that he did what he did to her in the past. Sadness that after knowing she lives, his happiness for her made him forgive himself and Hyang Sun wishing her a goof future. Anger that even after all this time, after they had their talk, she betrayed him again and he is about to loose someone who he only realized he loves.

But Hyang Sun's reasons were understandable despite her greed. She was a woman scorned, jealousy overcame her when she saw the Prince kissing the Princess. She felt betrayed. But then it is her mistake. Her ambition that made her that way. She should have recognized that her place is not beside the Prince, not then, not now. She pulled the arrow and it hit the Prince.  But the Prince was determined to end their ill fate so he slashed her with his sword. It cut right across her, spluttering blood on her face.

Next scene, the soldiers were looking for the Prince with Min Seo. They found him lying almost unconsciously while Hyang Sun found the strength to stand up and walked hurriedly away from them. She was chased until she reached a cliff. Again, k-drama used a cliff, meaning there will be a chance for a character to live even if he/she fell onto waters, which was exactly what happened when Hyang Sun was struck by three arrows on her body and she fell backwards. While the Prince was in critical condition, too. Next day, people or searchers found a body, supposed to be Hyang Sun. She was assumed dead.

Days passes but the Prince remained weak. His recovery was slow. He kept on asking about the Princess whenever he awakes but was told she is recovering much faster than him. One time he was told that the Princess was sent home to be with her family to heal more quickly. But then when he was able to get up, he noticed that his sister and relative were going towards the Princess quarters. he followed and he learned the Princess was still unconscious up to this day. He was told she was getting weaker and chances of waking up was slim. He touched the Princess face lovingly, regretful for all the days he wasted.

At that time, Park Dal Hyang's father was already buried in their hometown. His grieving period was so sad. His mother was also crying remembering his father. But then, the King came to know about the conspiracy or the secret the three musketeers did with Dal Hyang regarding Gol Dae, the Princess and what transpired at Ajun. Seung Po and Min Seo were arrested. Seung Po's letter to Dal Hyang came too late. He was also arrested. They were questioned by the King about the whole incident. The King wanted to know if the letter he received form Dal Hyang was true or altered to keep their secret. Dal Hyang said that part of what happened to him at Ajun was true. he almost died. But he also pretended to be the Prince, admitting that he used the P:rince's name as they formed the group called The Three Musketeers. Seung Po and MinSeo agreed. protecting the Prince from being punished.

The King was shocked to learn that they protected Gol Dae and used the Princess to hide Gol Dae. And that they threatened the governor of Ajun to make the letter. Their actions speaks of treason. Totally mocking the authority of the King. they were sentenced to die immediately by hanging upon learning that the Prince is awake and has found out what happened to his friends. The King wanted to finished the ordeal before the Prince arrived. But then he came just in time. Well, almost too late for the three were already hanging with their heads inside the loop, struggling for breath and life.

The Prince begged the King. He admitted that it was him who planned the whole thing from the start and that he only gave orders to them. The King was speechless and could not believe what his own son did behind his back. He sentenced him to die also. The ministers begged the King to forgive the Prince. At the last moment after seeing the Prince and his friends being hanged the King walked out but silently ordered to stop the execution.

The Prince's wounds opened and blood came out. He lost consciousness also as the eunach hurriedly carried him on his back running towards his chambers. The Prince blacked out again for a few days. He stayed in bed, passing out every now and then.

The King talked to Ja Jeom and the teacher of the Prince. Surprising ly, Ja Jeom asked the King to forgive the Prince and instead used him in the future . The King finally admitted that he was scared of his own son, of the :Prince. He saw for the first time the real character of the Prince which is totally opposite to his fickle minded ways. The Prince is strong. He is not afraid to admit to his faults and is willing to accept any reprimand. He is a leader. He can make anyone follow him. Unlike the King, because of his anxiousness, he is the weak one compared to his son. In the end, the King followed Ja Jeom's advise to let the Prince stay and be used someday.

The Prince opened his eyes and heard that someone passed away but they could not tell him because of his condition. he cried silently thinking it was the Princess. His tears were soon wiped away by a gentle hands with cloth. He opened his eyes and saw the Princess. he could not believe so he asked if he was dreaming. The Princess is really alive and well. I love the chemistry they have. The romance is still lacking but the promise of sweet love is there. They both smiled. In the end, the Prince told her to forget what he said, about telling her his feelings. He felt shy. He wanted to preserve his dignity. But the Princess only smiled.

War broke. The Qings were not happy about the Joseon King. The emperor ordered Gol Dae to announce the war. The King fled upon learning. Dal Hyang narrated what happened. The Prince and Princess were captured and brought to later jin the enemy's territory. Two years had passed. Dal Hyang was still a soldier. He was left in Hanyang. The palace felt empty. His friends were in another place.

He visited Shimyang. He was ordered by the King. Guess the King resumed his position after the war finished. Dal Hyang went to a pub. One of the servant who was serving was Seung Po in a different clothes and hairstyle, just like a native Qing. They were happy to see each other. The a fight errupted and a man who looked like a girl in pigtails wearing also a Qing's clothes went down the banister of a staircase and with his sword fought with energy. It was Min Seo. Not too far was the Prince who came from upstairs and jumping down. Dal Hyang was amazed to see his friends again.

The ending was the reunion of the Three Musketeers who are now famous in Shimyang and anywhere. People are looking for them. Mostly enemies who wanted to fight them. Bandits arrived. Scary looking. But the Prince just looked cool together with his loyal friends. Dal Hyang also went up the stage in front to be with his friends. Together, all for one, one for all as the saying, they faced their opponents.

-----------------------

Who is not eager to watch season 2?  With this kind of ending, it leaves viewers wanting more. First chapter of the story is finished. Wrapped up nicely with a twist that is unbelievable awaiting the second chapter. Hayng Sun is alive and her greed has leveled up. She is no longer interested in the Princess's position. She wants the highest position, beside the throne of the King. Yes, she is coveting to be the next Queen. Hmmm...really intelligent Hyang Sun. With the kind of King Joseon has, he will be played by her on the palm of her hand. Her beauty will really capture the King. Foolishly he will fall for her. Ah...this twist is exciting. I wonder how the Prince will react to this new plan awaiting him at the palace.

I am looking forward for more interactions between the Prince and the Princess. Hopefully sweet and romantic moments. Then I am also anticipating Dal Hyang and Tani's meeting. Two years had passed so Tani will now be a grown young woman. I hope her character will be funny and amazing.

Well I am satisfied with the finale of the drama. The past was settled somehow. The Prince realized who he loves. He may not know that Hyang Sun is alive but I think he already moved on and forgiven himself for whatever mistakes he did or wronged her. She did not changed. She remained greedy that's why he felt sad for the love he had for her.

The Prince and the Princess may have started a new life together, happily and contentedly. But Hyang Sun is just beginning her next revenge.

See you again readers on season 2!
