[mslee's thoughts] Angel Eyes Episode 10 Review

Ending episode 9 in a teary, comforting kiss of Soo Wan to Dong Joo, episode 10 started in a light atmosphere. Leaving the outpouring of heavy emotions aside, the couple comfortably claim the kitchen's space and started cooking, with Dong Joo not sure if he is doing the right thing.

The scene is just perfect for two lovers just being happy to be with each other and making the most of it in a fun and teasing manner of what a happy and loving couple should have. I like how both shows their true feelings of being in love. There is truth and realism in their actions as girlfriend and boyfriend in a relationship.

Meanwhile, Ji Woon continues to be solemn and find refuge in drinking. Whether it's Dong Joo or Ji Woon, Cha Min Soo is there to support a friendship. It's a good thing that she is taking no ones side but making it clear that she understands what he is feeling right now. Deceived. I have said previously in episode 9 that Ji Woon's perspective of the situation is his and if he thinks that he was betrayed, then let him be. It is what he feels of what happened around him. Maybe unfair for him but there is no easy way to tell the truth, always.

The lost letters. Soo Wan sneaked inside Dong Joo's room and when she opened a drawer, she noticed a box of letters. When she looked more, it has her name on them. They were letters sent to her in their old address but returned back to Dong Joo. The missing link has finally appeared why communication was cut off all those years.

Though Dong Joo must have realized who was behind these returned mails, he kept it to himself. He snatched back the box of letters, pretending to be embarrassed of what she might read, but gave her one telling her to write him a letter instead for every mail she wants to read.

The drama is continually exposing the real culprit in the Jung Hwa case. Dr, Oh Young Ji had already premonition of who was Jung Hwa and how she was connected to Park Dong Joo and Soo Wan's eye donor. She confirmed it through Dr. Jae Beom.

This flashback from 12 years ago, inside the hospital room after the successful surgery of Jung Hwa by Dr. Jae Beom showed the face behind the one who injected something that put Jung Hwa's life in danger leading to her death.

I would like to be objective seeing how Dr. Oh Young Ji reacts to her reverie. Holding the family photos of Jung Hwa with her children, I want to think and believe that there is remorse inside her. Though she has been showed as a tough Vice President of the hospital, that moment when she looked at the photos, she was in deep thought and there was anxiety or maybe a bit of regret for her deed. After all she is a doctor. I know that she also wanted badly to have an eye donor for Soo Wan, that the hit and run accident are now pointing to her and her family, but those circumstances must have made her decisions clouded, muddled, enough to choose a grave mistake that will soon catch up with her. Ergo, a need to bury the past.

There is definitely guilt on her face as much as definite decision to make sure what happened 12 years ago won't come out in the open. The only thing that makes me hate her silence besides not owning up to her participation in the murder was the fact that she is letting Dr. Jae Beom, her friend to be eaten with guilt to something that he temporarily done but not really the cause of Jung Hwa's death. Dr. Jae Beom has been carrying that guilt all these years, very frightened of what will happen if the truth be known to Dong Joo and Soo Wan. A lonely journey he has been taking on his own, thinking he was the sole reason why Jung Hwa died. Dr. Oh Young Ji is cruel in doing this to her friend. The past and what happened to Jung Hwa can not be reversed anymore, only her confession will make it somehow okay, not acceptable though but at least she can pay for it. But what is happening to Dr. Jae Beom, she has been the reason all along, yet she is keeping her silence in exchange for the agony of her supposed friend.

Soo Wan and Dong Joo went on a date at the observatory. There they shared a blanket wrapped around them both while they looked at the stars in the sky. Feeling the romance in that  moment, Dong Joo lightly gave her a peck on the lips. Then he leaned down to give her a second kiss. More passionate, sweet, deep kiss of a man in love with his woman. I love the fact that Soo Wan responded/kissed him back which is rare in dramaland. So for this particular scene, Kamsahamnida PDnim and writernim. Soo Wan and Dong Joo is in a real relationship despite the odds.

Angel Eyes won't be compelling as well as funny at the same time without Teddy and Hye Joo scenes.

The breather that makes watching enjoyable. She starts babysitting despite team leader Kang's apprehension which turned out to be true. The place they came back to after a days work was a mess.

Catwoman and little spiderman were playing in the house. But Hye Joo remained cheerful even when they came home. Teddy to the rescue, offering to clean up all the mess to ease team leader Kang's bewilderment at the sight of his home..

Knowing who was Jung Hwa to Soo Wan, Dr. Oh Young Ji announced the breaking off of engagement, knowing Soo Wan will never love her son the way Ji Woon loves her. At least, this decision is a relief that she is severing ties with Soo Wan. Maybe because it will always remind her that her eyes came from the woman she killed. It is something that will always haunt her everytime she looks at Soo Wan.

The episode is so full of revelations. Soo Wan saw the letter of Dong Joo he left behind before he went to US in his father's desk. Dr. Jae Beom made it happened.

She was betrayed by her own father and what hurts most was he knew behind the tears she cried and how long she waited.

She felt so sorry to Dong Joo. She stayed the night in Hye Joo's room. She was so hurt she left her father alone in the house. But Dong Joo asked her to go back home the next day. Dong Joo has always been objective despite what has been happening between hi and the doctor. Guess he loves him sincerely he can understand anything.

The heartbreaking part of the episode for me was when Soo Wan cooked for his father and after letting him know that she still loves him, she kneels in front of him, holding his hands and asked/begging him to consider Dong Joo. All she wants is to be happy.

A very emotional scene. I see how Dr. Jae Beom wants to consider and give in seeing his daughter cry but he is also controlling himself. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, that he truly loves his daughter and wants her to be happy. But maybe fear of the past is keeping him silent.

He needs time. He seeks his wife, talking to her, letting her know how much he loves both Soo Wan and Dong Joo. He also thanked her for saving him from doing mistake that time when he stopped reviving Jung Hwa. I think the scene is about making peace within himself. Finding strength through his late wife. Dr. Jae Beom has reached a decision.

He gave in. He lost. But more than loosing, this is a new start for him. I think giving in to his children, Dong Joo and Soo Wan will mark as the next stage in his life. Facing what will come. I think he is ready to take full responsibility of what he thought is his mistake in  Jung Hwa's death. He is going to rely on the love of Dong Joo and Soo Wan to understand him and perhaps forgive him when the time comes.

The story keeps me from judging a character. It makes me see beyond a human's mind and heart. It makes me wonder about life's agonies and how they have reached a certain decision that eventually causes miseries to other people.

Watching this drama, I have always reserved my opinions about who is the villains here. I wait for the story to unfold. I never once thought that a father could really abandon his daughter and be cruel without reason. For a human being, mistakes are "necessary" to weigh your worth as a person and to learn positively. Guilt will always be human's strength in finding the right way and to live peacefully.

So far, Dr. Jae Beom's character has turned in a positive way. For me, he is not really the villain in the drama. He was the sacrificial lamb, so to speak.

There will be more revelations after this. But hoping happiness will not be cut short for this couple.
