[mslee's thoughts] A New Leaf Episode 3 Screen caps - Kim Seok Joo Lost His Memory

Short Recap

Kim Seok Joo Has Amnesia

Kim Seok Joo is missing and no one knows his whereabouts. He can not be contacted. He did not go home the previous night.

The accident left him unconscious and when he was found out and brought to the hospital it was almost too late. He suffered from amnesia due to skull fracture. Good thing he did not need operation still it damaged his memory. But surprisingly, he retains all his knowledge about his work, about being the brilliant lawyer.

In the office his boss Cha Young Woo is concerned about his disappearance and commanded his secretary to look into emergency rooms. He also asked about Lee Ji Yoon and her possible connection with Seok Joo. She keeps getting calls from a hospital but she always cut them off, not knowing the nurses are only calling her because her number was found in him and a note from her in his pocket. His phone was tracked down but seems it was stolen and the track led down to a far away destination already.

When she found out about him, she was about to tell to one of his friend in the office but because there was a meeting, she wasn't noticed. But the boss saw her and when she held out her phone with Seok Joo's photo, together they went to he hospital.

His amnesia is kept secret for now.Even Ji Yoon was sworn never to tell anyone in the office about it. It would cause a lot of trouble when found out. Seok Joo's clients will be worried.  He needs to remember to reverse the damage he had done in one of their clients loosing in a bid.

Cha Young Woo decided to discharged him from the hospital. He asked Ji Yoon to assist him for now. She went with him at his apartment but the place is like a puzzle to Seok Joo. It doesn't give him a feeling of familiarity. Though there is no problem when it comes to what he learned being a lawyer, all about his personal life is missing.

Back at the office, Ji Yoon was nervous when they both stepped in the building. She kept urging him to move faster and show him the way, trying to avoid office mates. But two greeted him near the elevator and Ji Yoon greeted them back loudly saying their names.

So far no one notices any difference in him besides the lack of arrogance and formality in his stride. He was left alone in his own office, familiarizing himself with the documents and the names of the people he will be meeting. Cha Young Woo looked into Lee Ji Yoon's files to know her better. He decided that she will be his assistant from now on. He told her and when she hesitated, he offered her a job in the firm. She won't be a trainee anymore. He told her she would learn so much working with Seok Joo.

Though Seok Joo does not remember Ji Yoo, he felt that there was animosity coming from her. He eveb told her about it and she was surprised he noticed. She told him he is not her type and just like the typical Seok Joo, he answered her the same way. She is not his type, too.

The parring of words between the two is always something good to watch. It will be interesting now that Ji Yoon will work closely with him. The episode is not as comedic like the first episode but still has a couple of scenes where Seok Joo and Ji Yoon gave a good chemistry.

One of the twist in the story was that the man she met at the wedding, Jeon Ji Won now lives in the same neighborhood as hers. they met as he was unloading his things the day he moved. They talked for a while and sparks between them was definitely there.

Some thoughts

I still haven't decided if Cha Young Woo is as good as he seems to be. His character depicts that of someone who won't interfere in Seok Joo's plans or work. Seok Joo is the best in the firm and while he is the boss, the head of the company, I am not sure if there will be hidden agenda running inside his head. Seok Joo is a person who likes winning but with the current mess he did in one of the clients, Cha Young Woo asked Seok Joo whom did he took sides?

Cha Young Woo's poker face with his silent smiles can be deceiving or maybe I read too much. But as for now, he is helping his best lawyer to remember everything.

Kim Seok Joo's accident will be the turning point in his life. He may not remember immediately, thus will make him vulnerable. I think this way, he will have time to ponder about what he was like before the accident. Relying on someone's help may also change him and his personality.

A New Leaf is always about change for the better.

I won't pretend that I understand completely what is happening in the "corporate" side  of the story. But I know that as I continue to watch, somehow I will have a better understanding what happened and why his client lost in the bidding.:))
